Patton High’s first Northwestern Foothills 2A softball win of the season on Friday shook up the standings, leaving three teams tied for second place behind Draughn.

The Panthers nipped visiting Bunker Hill 9-8 by scoring all their runs in the final two innings.

The Bears, 5-2 in the league and tied with Fred T. Foard and Hibriten after the loss, led 5-0 through four innings.

Patton tied it at 5 with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before the Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to lead 8-5.

The Panthers, 1-6 in the conference, had a four-run at-bat in the seventh inning to win it.

Ashlyn Castle, Bridget Pack and Catherine Dale sparked Patton. Castle had two hits, including a home run, Pack had two hits and two RBIs and Dale hit a home run and drove in four runs.

Kaylee Redwine picked up a win after going three innings. She allowed four hits, three runs (all earned) with five walks and one strikeout.

Patton is on the road Tuesday for a league game at 6 p.m. against Hibriten.

Bunker Hill plays a conference game at Hibriten on Friday at 6 p.m.

BASEBALL

Patton 3, Bunker Hill 0

Peyton Smith pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit, as Patton (5-7, 4-3) beat the Bears (6-4, 4-3) at Patton.

The Panthers scored a run in the second, third and fourth innings.

Smith, Matthew Byrd and Breyden Pearson each had a hit for Patton and Carson Sigmon had Bunker Hill’s only hit.

Smith walked three and struck out three.

Seth Moore took the loss, going five innings for the Bears. He allowed one hit and three runs and he walked four and struck out four.

Patton is tied for third place with Bunker Hill – trailing Fred T. Foard and Hibriten, who share first place – and the Panthers play at Hibriten on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

The Bears’ next game is a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lincolnton.

Hibriten 12, West Iredell 0, 5 inn.

Hibriten (9-3, 6-1) scored four runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth inning, cruising past the host Warriors (4-9, 2-5), who lost their fifth straight game.

The Panthers collected 20 hits, including three each by Garrett Hamby, Joshua Crisp and Luke Absher, and had eight players with two or more hits.

Hamby went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Tyler Watson had two hits and two RBIs, Crisp was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Absher went 3-for-4 and drove in a run.

West Iredell had only one hit.

Ethan Watson struck out eight in five innings and gained a win for Hibriten.

Hibriten will play on Monday in an endowment game at South Iredell.

West Iredell is on the road Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., playing Fred T. Foard.

Fred T. Foard 16, East Burke 0, 5 inn.

The Tigers pushed their win streak to five in a row with a league victory at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Foard scored seven runs in the sixth inning and ended up outhitting the Cavs 16-4.

The Tigers (8-2, 6-1) share first place with Hibriten and they have the longest current win streak in the Greater Hickory area.

Foard is at home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m, facing West Iredell and the Cavs (1-11, 0-7) play a league game at home on Monday (6 p.m.) against Draughn.

West Lincoln 7 (Wednesday)

Mateo Pena picked up this first varsity win, throwing four innings and striking out four in relief, as Foard won a non-conference game at home.

Zac Martin, a freshman struck out two in the seventh inning for Foard, gaining his first career save.

The Tigers stole nine bases and had timely hitting with Will Fry driving in two runs and Corey Seimer adding to hits and driving in a run.

Fred T. Foard 12, Draughn 1, 6 inn.

Jack Colosimo went 5-for-5 – four singles and a home run – and stole four bases as the Tigers cruised to a conference win at home.

Jeremiah Wike went six innings, striking out 14, and allowed one hit and walked three. He also hit a solo home run.

GIRLS SOCCER

Fred T. Foard 5, East Burke 0

Abby Walker had two goals and an assist, leading the Tigers to a league victory in Icard.

Alexis Woglemuth, Cameron Ekonoman and Anna Schmidt also scored a goal for the Tigers.

Abigial Matthews, Rachel Crombie and Charity Crutchfield added one assist each.

Foard has edges in shots (28-7), shots on goal (20-4) and corner kicks (6-0).

Foard is at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a league match against West Iredell while the Cavs are at home on Monday against Draughn and play the Wildcats also on Tuesday, on the road, at 6 p.m.

Patton 5, Bunker Hill 1

Bailey Mojic and Skylar Georges each scored twice for the Panthers in a home conference victory.

The Panthers face Hibriten in Lenoir on Tuesday at 6:30 in a league match.

Patton 8, West Caldwell 0 (Thursday)

Georges scored three goals and Molly Messenheimer added two in a non-conference victory at Patton.
