NEWTON – Newton-Conover High has dedicated new bleachers in its gym in memory of the late Kevin Campbell, who served the school for 22 years as a teacher, athletic trainer, assistant principal and principal.

The dedication ceremony was last Friday night when the Red Devils’ basketball teams played Maiden.

“Mr. Campbell was the most spirited and consistent presence both inside Gurley Stadium and inside Lemon Gymnasium,” Newton-Conover City Schools Superintendent Aron Gabriel said during the dedication. “He typically sat over against the double red doors on the home side of the gymnasium where the empty chair is now sitting.”

The dedication was attended by several members of the NCCS Board of Education and by Campbell’s wife, Kim, and his sons, Nick and Nate.

A commemorative plaque is to be placed in the gym in memory of Campbell.
