ZACH JARRETT

(Class A Advanced Fredrick, Va.)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, hit his third home run of the season on Wednesday night when Lynchburg (Va.) beat the host Keys 12-2 before 2,421.

He started in right field and batted fifth in the lineup, going 2-for-4 with a walk and driving in one run with his home run in the fourth inning.

Fredrick continues the series against Lynchburg on Thursday night.

Jarrett is hitting . 265 this season with three home runs and 14 RBIs and is hitting .308 with two home runs and five RBIs in his last 10 games.

After 221 pro games, he is a .262 career hitter with 19 home runs and 93 RBIs.

Jarrett is on the Fredrick roster for a second tenure this season after spending about a month at Class AA Bowie (Md.).

He is in his third minor league season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs.

Jarrett drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Harvey, a first round pick by Baltimore in 2013, is the scheduled starter for the Baysox on Friday night when they play Hartford at Bowie.

Akron defeated Bowie 9-8 on Wednesday at Bowie before 1,077 and Harvey did not pitch.

Those two teams play again Thursday in Bowie and the Baysox are 19-32 this season.

Harvey made his ninth start of the season last Saturday, lasting 2 1/3 innings in a 19-4 victory at Erie (Pa.). He gave up four hits, three runs (all earned), walked four and struck out three and did not get a decision. That left his record for the year at 2-3 with an ERA of 5.82.

Harvey has thrown 38 2/3 innings this season, walking 14 and striking out 43, and his career pro record is now 10-13 with an ERA of 3.59 with 260 strikeouts in 56 games.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL

(Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, will have his next start on Thursday at noon when the Fire Frogs face Fort Myers (Fla.).

Fort Myers beat Florida 8-1 on Thursday, a game that drew only 181 fans.

Deal last pitched last Friday at Dunedin (Fla.) and did not get a decision in that game.

He pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits, two runs (both earned) with no walks and six strikeouts. His record this season is 2-3 with an ERA oif 1.50 with 54 innings pitched, 12 walks and 47 strikeouts.

Deal has been named to the Florida State League’s All-Star Game, scheduled June 14-15 in Jupiter (Fla.) with the game on June 15.

He has a pro career record of 14-6 with an ERA of 2.15 with 38 walks and 156 strikeouts.
