Harvey, a first round pick by Baltimore in 2013, made his sixth start of the season on Monday night and picked up his first win, pitching the first game of a series at Altoona (Pa.) that Bowie won 10-5 before 3,671.

He threw six innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out five while throwing strikes on 52 of his 81 pitches and facing 21 batters.

Harvey improved to 1-2 this season with an ERA of 4.78. He’s pitched 26 1/3 innings, allowed 29 hits, 19 runs (14 earned), hit two batters, walked nine and struck out 27.

Bowie continues the series on Tuesday night at Altoona (Pa.).

Harvey is now 9-12 in his pro career — in its sixth year — with an ERA of 3.33 with 203 innings pitched, 69 walks and 244 strikeouts.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL

(Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

 

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, pitched the first game of a doubleheader on Monday at Lakeland (Fla.) and took his second loss of the season in a 6-0 win by Lakeland before 402 fans.

Lakeland won the second game 6-2, and the series continues on Tuesday.

He worked five innings, allowing eights hits, one run (earned) with one walk and four strikeouts and faced 23 batters and threw strikes on 59 of his 88 pitches.

Deal is 2-2 with an ERA of 1.29 after throwing 35 innings this season. He’s allowed seven runs (five earned) with seven walks and 31 strikeouts.

Deal is in his third pro season after signing with the Braves after a morning tryout at Bandys.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.
Deal’s career numbers heading into the season: 12-3 with 2.47 ERA, 41 games, four saves, 109 1/3 innings pitched with 21 walks and 109 strikeouts.

JARRETT

ZACH JARRETT

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

 

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, batted seventh in the Baysox lineup on Monday when they won 10-5 at Altoona (Pa.) with fellow Catawba County star Hunter Harvey starting and gaining his first win of the season.

Jarrett started in left field and went 1-for-5, leaving his batting average at .262 with one home run and eight RBIs. He’s hitting .222 with no home runs and two RBIs in his last 10 games.

Bowie’s series at Altoona continues ton Tuesday, and the Baysox are 8-23 in the Eastern League’s Western Division.

Jarrett is in his third pro season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs. He drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.
