ZACH JARRETT

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, was promoted to Class AA Bowie (Md.), after Friday night’s Class A Advanced game in Winston-Salem (he played for the Fredrick, Md., Keys) and is in the Bowie starting lineup.

On Sunday, he batted third and played center field and left field, going 1-for-3 and walking twice in an 8-6 home loss against Akron (Ohio) before a crowd of 2,364.

Jarrett is hitting .304 this season with one home run and seven RBIs, and his batting average in his last 10 games is .371 with three home runs and five RBIs.

Bowie begins a three-game series against Richmond (Va.) on Monday before heading into Erie (Pa.) on Thursday for a series that goes through Sunday.

Jarrett is approaching 200 games in the minor leagues and is a career .266 hitter with 17 home runs and 86 RBIs.

While Jarrett and former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey are now on the same roster, it’s wait-and-see for the first time they are in the lineup together. Harvey’s last start was last Thursday.

Jarrett is in his third pro season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs. He drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Akron (Ohio) beat Bowie 8-6 on Sunday before 2,364 to close a series.

The Baysox plays Richmond (Va.) on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and Harvey’s next probable start is not yet listed.

Harvey, a first-round pick by Baltimore in 2013, has his best start of the season last Thursday night when visiting Akron tripped the Baysox 6-2.

He made his fourth start of the year, going five innings and giving up one hit, no runs, walking one and striking out two.

Harvey is 0-1 after four starts with an ERA of 5.60, throwing 17 2/3 innings. He’s allowed 22 hits, 13 runs (11 earned), walked five and struck out 21.

He threw strikes on 46 of his 75 pitches on Thursday night and faced 17 batters.

Harvey didn’t pitch after June 2 of last season and went 1-2 with a 5.57 ERA in nine starts, pitching 32 1/3 innings, walking nine and striking out 30.

He’s in his sixth year in the minor leagues after being a first-round draft pick in 2013.

In his first five pro seasons, Harvey went 8-10 with an ERA of 3.11 with 47 appearances (all starts) and 176 2/3 innings pitched. He walked 60 and struck out 217.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL

(Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Deal did not pitch on Sunday when the Fire Frogs edged St. Lucie (Fla.) 3-2 on the road before a crowd of 473.

Florida (8-16) and is off on Monday and starts at home series on Tuesday against Lakeland (Fla.).

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, made his fourth start of the season on last Tuesday at Clearwater (Fla.), taking a 1-0 loss.

He pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, one run (earned) with one walk and six strikeouts and is now 1-1 this season with an ERA of 1.50.

Deal threw 59 of his 90 pitches for strikes, getting 11 groundball outs and facing 26 batters.

Deal’s next start has not been announced.

He is in his third pro season after signing with the Braves after a morning tryout at Bandys, and he pitched in college at Presbyterian.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.

Deal’s career numbers heading into the season: 12-3 with 2.47 ERA, 41 games, four saves, 109 1/3 innings pitched with 21 walks and 109 strikeouts.
