ZACH JARRETT (Class A Advanced, Fredrick, Va. Keys)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, went 1-for-5 and hit his first home run of the season on Monday night in a 9-3 victory at Myrtle Beach (S.C.).

He batted fourth in the lineup and started in right field, raising his batting average to .303.

Jarrett has one home run – hit in the fifth inning on Monday night — and four RBIs this season and he is 6-for-13 in his last three games.

The Keys (4-7) have two more games against Myrtle Beach, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

For fans interested in Fredrick’s games in North Carolina, they will be at Fayetteville for three games on April 23-25 and play at Winston-Salem on April 27-28.

Jarrett is in his third pro season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs. He drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Visiting Erie (Pa.) topped the Baysox 9-6 on Monday night, dropping Bowie to 3-8, and Harvey did not pitch.

The series continues on Tuesday night in Bowie (Md.).

A third start for Harvey will most likely come when the Baysox go to Akron (Ohio) for games on Thursday through Saturday.

Harvey made his second start of the season last Friday night, taking a loss as Harrisburg (Pa.) won 4-2. He worked four innings, allowing three hits — one a home run — and four runs (all earned). He walked three and struck out six, bringing his season stats to a 0-1 record with an ERA of 8.31 in 8 2/3 innings, allowing 13 hits, eight earned runs with four walks and 12 strikeouts.

Harvey threw strikes on 46 of his 77 pitches and threw in 68-degree weather with a drizzle and, at one point, there was an eight-minute rain delay.

Harvey didn’t pitch after June 2 of last season and went 1-2 with a 5.57 ERA in nine starts, pitching 32 1/3 innings, walking nine and striking out 30.

He’s in his sixth year in the minor leagues after being a first-round draft pick in 2013.

In his first five pro seasons, Harvey went 8-10 with an ERA of 3.11 with 47 appearances (all starts) and 176 2/3 innings pitched. He walked 60 and struck out 217.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Clearwater (Fla.) opened a series against the Fire Frogs in Kissimmee (Fla.) on Monday by winning 6-0 before 264 fans.

Deal, a former star left-handed pitcher at Bandys High, did not pitch on Monday night.

Florida is at home against Clearwater (Fla.) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Deal’s next probable start will likely come Thursday against Daytona Beach in Kissimmee (Fla.) in a noon start.

He made his second start of the year last Friday, picking up his first win of the season after going five innings.

Deal gave up three hits, three runs (one earned) with three walks and four strikeouts.

After two starts, he’s 1-0 with an ERA of 0.82, pitching 11 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, walking three and striking out nine.

He threw 46 of his 74 pitches for strikes on Friday, facing 20 batters in 87-degree weather before only 783 fans.

Deal is in his third pro season after signing with the Braves after a morning tryout at Bandys, and he pitched in college at Presbyterian.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.

Deal’s career numbers heading into the season: 12-3 with 2.47 ERA, 41 games, four saves, 109 1/3 innings pitched with 21 walks and 109 strikeouts.
