DEAL

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal is a left-handed relief pitcher for the Braves (22-14) who picked up his second win of the season on Sunday afternoon when Rome beat Hickory 7-2 at L.P. Frans Stadium before a crowd of 900.

He replaced the second Braves pitcher of the day, Freddy Tamok, and pitched two innings. He gave up no runs, no hits, walked none and struck out three, facing six batters and throwing all 12 of his pitches for strikes.

Deal (2-0) has now thrown 13 1/3 innings in seven games with an ERA of 1.35, giving up 10 hits, two runs (both earned), hitting two batters, walking two, issuing one intentional walk and striking out 21.

In his last three outings, Deal has pitched six innings, allowing four hits, no runs, no walks and with an ERA of 0.00 and 14 strikeouts.

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

JARRETT

Zach Jarrett is a former Hickory High and Charlotte star playing for the Shorebirds (24-12), who fell 5-4 on Sunday at Columbia, S.C., before a crowd of 2,364.

Jarrett started in right field and went 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI, and he scored one run. His batting average rose to .310 in 33 games, and he has seven home runs and 17 RBIs.

In his last 10 games, Jarrett is hitting .275 with no home runs and three RBIs and has significantly reduced his strikeouts (9).

His batting average is 11th-best among South Atlantic League (SAL) hitters, and he is fourth in the league in home runs with seven, trailing Chad Spanberger of Asheville (8), Casey Golden of Asheville (9), and Seuly Matias of Lexington (Ky.), who has 11.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey did not pitch on Sunday when Hartford (Conn.) won 9-4 at Bowie before a crowd of 1,955.

Bowie is 17-18.

Harvey made his fifth start of the season last Wednesday as Bowie won 8-2 at Altoona (Pa.), picking up his first win of the season. He went five innings, allowing five hits, two runs (both earned) with no walks and two strikeouts.

Harvey also hit one batter, facing 19 overall, and he threw strikes on 51 of his 81 pitches before a crowd of 7,577.

After five starts, Harvey is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.63. He has thrown 17 1/3 innings, allowed 17 hits, seven runs (all earned), hit two batters, walked five and struck out 12.

If he works after five days of rest, his next start would come against Harrisburg (Pa.) at Bowie on Monday night.
