HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High left-hander Hayden Deal gained his eighth win of the season on Thursday night as the Braves nipped visiting West Virginia 3-2 with a run in the ninth inning. The game drew a crowd of 1,643.

Deal pitched in relief, throwing one inning, and he gave up no runs, walked none and struck out none as his record improved to 8-1.

It was his 25th appearance of the year and he faced three hitters and threw strikes on six of his 13 pitches.

Deal’s ERA is at 2.35 in 72 2/3 innings, and he has walked 16 and struck out 77.

The Braves are 66-59 overall and 26-30 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings and in fourth place at 7 1/2 back of division leader Lexington (Ky.)

Rome won a first-half title, securing a postseason berth.

JARRETT

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Former Hickory High and Charlotte star Zach Jarrett went 1-for-5 and drove in a run on Thursday night when the Shorebirds won 5-2 over Greensboro on the road before 4,638.

Jarrett started in right field and batted third in the lineup.

His batting average is .282 with a league-best 129 hits that include 24 doubles, six triples, 14 home runs and 64 RBIs in 119 games this season.

Jarrett is hitting .237 over his last 10 games with no home runs and six RBIs.

Delmarva is 61-61 and 26-29 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings. The Shorebirds share fourth place with West Virginia at 10 1/2 games back of division-leading Lakewood, N.J., and seven games back of second-place Hickory.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey, a right-hander sidelined since early June by an injury, was scheduled to resume throwing on Aug. 6.

There’s been no official indication when Harvey might next pitch for the Baysox.

He continues to be listed on Bowie’s roster and noted as being on a seven-day disabled list.

He was in Florida working out last month while recovering from a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

When he twisted to avoid being struck by the ball, his right shoulder popped out of socket.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8).

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Bowie improved to 61-66 in the Eastern League on Thursday night by beating visiting Richmond (Va.) 3-1 before, 2,493.
