HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Hayden Deal, a star at Bandys High who played college baseball at Presbyterian, was scheduled to start on Monday night at Augusta (Ga.) but the game was rained out.

The Braves will play the GreenJackets twice on Tuesday, at 12:05 p.m. and then in a regularly scheduled game.

Deal is listed as Rome’s probable starter for the 12:05 p.m. game.

His last start came June 8 when he threw six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four in a game that Augusta eventually won 4-0.

Deal is 4-1 with an ERA of 1.98, pitching 50 innings this season. Deal has hit four batters, intentionally walked one and walked nine to go with 55 strikeouts.

In his last 10 outings, he is 1-1 with an ERA of 1.87, pitching 33 2/3 innings with six walks and 30 strikeouts.

The Braves are 48-45 overall and 8-16 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings. They won a first-half title, securing a postseason berth.

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte – went 2-for-4 on Monday night at Delmarva beat host West Virginia 4-1 before 1,791.

JARRETT

He started in left field, batted third in the lineup, and upped his batting average to .303. He has 102 hits, tied for third-most in the SAL with Riley Delgado of Rome.

Jarrett is fifth among six hitters in the league hitting .300 or better.

In 88 games this season, Jarrett also has 19 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 52 RBIs. He’s hitting .250 with three home runs and six RBIs in his last 10 games.

Jarrett is one of nine players in the SAL with at least 13 home runs – he’s tied for seventh with two other players with Seuly Mathias of Lexington (Ky.) leading the way with 26.

Delmarva improved to 51-41 and 16-9 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings. The Shorebirds have a half-game lead over Lakewood, N.J., in the second half standings.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey remains in Florida as he recovers from a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

When he twisted to avoid being struck by the ball, his right shoulder popped out of socket.

Harvey is now throwing some and is expected to pitch in a game in Florida on Aug. 4.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8) and remains listed as “active” on the Bowie roster. He is on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the 60-day disabled list he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Bowie won Monday night at Altoona (Pa.), 5-2 before 3,460 and improved to 42-50 overall in the Eastern League.
