MARION – McDowell High will have a new head coach in football next season in the Northwestern 3A-4A, where five of the schools have hired new leaders since 2016.
Andy Morgan, the Titans’ head coach for three years, has resigned to accept an assistant coaching job at A.C. Reynolds.
Morgan replaced Carson Gowan after the 2015 season and guided the Titans to records of 5-7, 2-9 and 4-8. They tied South Caldwell for sixth place last season and advanced to the state 4A playoffs.
The next head coach will be McDowell’s seventh since 1982.
The late Johnny Anderson was Titans head coach for nine years starting in 1982 and followed by Coy Gibson (eight years), David Riggs (five years), David Haynie (four years), Gowan (eight years) and Morgan.
McDowell has had six straight losing seasons and one winning season (8-4 in 2012) in the last 17 years.
