ST. LOUIS — Former East Lincoln High star Alec Burleson is in the major leagues, called up by the St. Louis Cardinals after sterling hitting all season at Triple A Memphis, Tenn.
Burleson, an outfielder who played college baseball at East Carolina, did not appear in Wednesday night’s game at home against the Washington Nationals.
The Cardinals continue that series on Thursday at 12:35 p.m. and play Friday through Sunday at Pittsburgh.
Burleson, 23, played 109 games at Memphis this season, hitting 20 home runs, 25 doubles, driving in 87 runs and hitting .331.
In 228 career minor league games, he hit .300 with 42 home runs, 43 doubles and 163 RBIs.
If they both get into today’s game, it’s possible for a matchup between Burleson and former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey, a Nationals reliever.
