Area baseball fans, one of the greatest high school pitchers to ever come out of the Greater Hickory area has suffered a setback — a broken bone in his pitching hand after being hit by a line drive in an exhibition game on Friday.
Here’s a link to an Associated Press story that indicates former South Caldwell High star Madison Bumgarner will be sidelined for a while with an injury:
Bumgarner, 28, is entering his ninth major league season after being the No. 10 pick in the first round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Giants. He is 104-76 with an ERA of 3.01 in 234 career starts.
He went 4-9 last season, also facing an off-the-field injury that sidelined him.
