DEAR READERS: MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR’S

Merry Christmas (and) thank you for following our website

Editor-Content Coordinator

Today, we at HobbsDailyReport.com take a short break to say thank you to our loyal online readers, our advertisers who make having content still free for local sports fans possible, and all those at high schools who help us publicize student athletes.

CHRIS HOBBS

Since April 2017, when we launched, we have followed local sports. We are looking forward to our sixth anniversary, and Editor/Content Coordinator is now in his 47th year of following local high school teams in all sports (he is former sports editor of three local newspapers and was the lead prep coverage guy for The Charlotte Observer for nearly 15 years during his long career).

We follow the Catawba Valley 2A Athletic, Western Foothills 3A, Northwestern 3A-4A teams plus Burke County’s Draughn and Patton. That’s 23 teams.

Readers know they can visit our website for a weekly and daily schedule of events, results at night (with updated standings) and as many results as we can get to (boxscores, summaries) after they are provided by the schools.

Our volume is challenging… with one person (Hobbs) typing up all the content, so thanks again for your patience.

MYRA HOBBS

Although we will continue to follow local sports our focus will not be as intense on some off-the-field coverage in 2023. Yes, we will break stories and give you the news — many times before any other local media — but we are trying to balance that time out with the time needed to maintain the site.

Stay tuned for more on what HobbsDailyReport.com will do as it renews its working relationship with WNNC-Big Ways, and we’re doing the same with WLON and will continue to be a working partner with the Lincoln Times News, after a group that includes publisher Lanny Ford purchased the newspaper.

Basically, we work with those folks on coverage and waive our copyright so they can use our content and coverage to complement what they do. In exchange, our website is credited with that work… and the radio station(s) promote our website with daily ads.

Chris Hobbs and wife Myra (graphics, photo, family boss) — who live in Denver, N.C — send holiday wishes to our community and those in the eight counties our website serves (Alexander, Ashe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincoln, Iredell, Watauga).

Again, we could not do what we do, especially for FREE to the public, without our advertisers, all former pep athletes or from families who have or had student-athletes playing that Hobbs has covered in the last four-plus decades.

Thanks and warm wishes to Dwayne Wilson Insurance (Maiden), Michael Burke of Burke Mortuary (Newton and Maiden) and brothers Grant and Aaron Rembert of The Athletes Lab (Maiden).

While working for newspapers, Hobbs covered both Wilson and his son, several of Burke’s relatives and both Grant and Aaron in their prep careers.

We’re preparing today for the state of holiday basketball and have finally caught up as that sport transitioned us into winter sports from a very busy fall sports schedule.

Thank you for reading and you can always reach Hobbs for comments, complaints, suggestions at chobbs001@att.net.
