SMAC 2A-3A SOFTBALL: R-S Central league champ with only 1 conference loss

R-S Central won the SMAC 2A-3A regular season title by four games.

R-S Central High closed out its South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A girls’ softball title on Friday night by beating Burns 12-0 on the road.

The Hilltoppers went 15-1 in the league to finish four games ahead of second-place Crest (11-5) after the Chargers fell 5-3 at Shelby on Friday night.

East Burke handed R-S Central its only league loss, 3-1 in late March in Rutherfordton.

Shelby had eight hits and Crest only four in their game at Shelby, where the Golden Lions had a four-run third inning.

The SMAC 2A-3A plays a 16-game schedule and no conference tournament.

R-S Central owns the No. 1 state 2A bid from the league and Crest, as the top-finishing 3A team, goes into the 3A bracket first from the conference.
