Knocked out of the SAC tournament after two losses on Saturday, Lenoir-Rhyne’s women’s softball team awaits word on whether it will receive an NCAA Division II playoff bid.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University is out of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s softball tournament and now waiting to see if it will receive a postseason bid.
Carson-Newman defeated the Bears 1-0 on Saturday and Coker knocked LRU, ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division II, out of the tournament by winning 4-3 on Saturday.
Coker (41-16) and Carson-Newman (42-11) meet Sunday at 1 p.m. in the championship game.
The Bears, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, are 46-11 and hoping to receive a berth into the Southeast Regionals on May 12-14 at sites to be determined.
Saturday’s highlights:
Carson-Newman 1, LRU 0: The Eagles’ broke a scoreless tie when Kristen Toppel provided a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out.
Lacie Rinus threw a two-hit shutout for the Eagles, improving to 25-5. She struck out nine while freshman Sydney Miller, who allowed an unearned run, took the loss for LRU.
Coker 4, LRU 3: Tayler Barcomb hit a two-run home run as Coker held on to nip the Bears.
LRU lost despite solo home runs from senior catcher Sarah Kenley and sophomore outfielder Erin Boone.
For Coker, Augusta Jackson improved to 8-2 with a win while Christine Carver pitched the final three innings for her fourth save of the year. Miller (14-7) was tagged with the defeat.
