HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER PLAYOFFS: Hickory Ridge ousts Hickory in 3A

Visiting Hickory Ridge eliminated Hickory’s girls in state 3A high school playoff soccer on Saturday night, winning 3-2.

Hickory Ridge (17-4-2), a No. 11 seed, advances to play unbeaten and top seed South Iredell (20-0-0) in a third round match in Troutman that must be played by Wednesday.

Pammy Fish and Jovanna Sanchez each had a goal for the seventh-seeded Red Tornadoes (19-4) and Sanchez picked up an assist.

No. 3 Asheville Reynolds 4, No. 14 North Iredell 0: The host Rockets (21-1-2) eliminated the 14th-seeded Raiders on Saturday.

Asheville Reynolds earned a third-round home match against No. 6 Weddington (19-2-0), a 6-1 home winner on Saturday over No. 10 Asheville.

The Rockets have won six straight and scored their 15th shutout of the season to beat North Iredell (16-7-0).

Match rescheduled: No. 22 Hibriten (10-7-3) will travel to No. 5 Kings Mountain (20-2-0) for a Monday second round 3A match after their Saturday battle was postponed.

The winner will draw a trip to No. 4 Cox Mill (21-2-0) in the third round. Cox Mill advanced by beating No. 19 Central Cabarrus 6-1 on Saturday at Cox Mill.

No. 1 Hendersonville 6, No. 16 R-S Central 0: Top-seeded Hendersonville (19-1-0) had five second-half goals en route to a victory over the Hilltoppers (13-7-1).

The Bearcats have won 19 straight since falling to Asheville Roberson in a season-opener, and they’ve outscore their last six opponents 36-1.

No. 6 Watauga 4, No. 11 Greensboro Grimsley 3, shootout: Jo Hill scored the fourth goal in the shootout for Watauga, then Brynne Gould stopped a shot by Grimsley to end a second-round match Saturday in Boone.

The Watauga Democrat report on the match said Gould had not previously played in goal this season.

The Pioneers (13-2-3) will play at top-seeded West Forsyth (22-1-1) in the next round after the Titans knocked off No. 15 Providence 2-0 on Saturday in Clemmons.

No. 13 Porter Ridge 3, No. 5 Lake Norman 2: Porter Ridge (20-3-1) snapped the Wildcats’ win streak at nine and advanced to the third round.

Porter Ridge, now on a seven-game win streak, next plays at No. 12 Charlotte Catholic (19-2-3) in the third round.

Catholic advanced on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Greensboro Page on the road.
