Brady Pope, who will play his fourth season of varsity football at South Iredell this year, has decided he’ll play college football for Charlotte.

TROUTMAN – Brady Pope, who has thrown for 224 yards per game the last two seasons for South Iredell High, is going to continue his football career at Charlotte.

The Vikings’ football staff said last week in an online post that Pope, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound rising senior, has decided to play for the 49ers.

Pope helped South Iredell go 9-4 last season when he completed 246 of his 366 passes (67.2 percent) for 3,624 ards and 40 touchdowns. He threw for 278.8 yards per game.

As a sophomore on an 11-3 team, Pope completed 181 of 290 passes for 2,425 yards and 25 TDs.

South Iredell is leaving the eight-team North Piedmont 3A-4A at the end of the school year due to statewide realignment.

In August, the Vikings join Carson, East Rowan, North Iredell, Statesville and West Rowan in the North Piedmont 3A.

South Iredell’s varsity football opener this season is Aug. 18 at home against Rocky River.

Pope is (unofficially) approaching 7,000 career yards in passing and 70 passing TDs (needs one) in 34 games. This will be his fourth varsity season.
