Newton-Conover High knocked East Lincoln out of first place in Southern District 7 Athletic 2A girls’ soccer on Tuesday night, beating the visiting Mustangs 2-0.
The victory left the Red Devils at 6-1-1 in the league and tied for second place with East Lincoln with Lincolnton (7-0-2) moving atop the standings after a 5-0 win on Tuesday at Bunker Hill.
East Lincoln has a makeup match scheduled Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bandys, and Newton-Conover has a big match set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lincolnton.
Lincolnton 5, Bunker Hill 1: At Bunker Hill, the Wolves shut out the Bears and moved into first place.
Lincolnton is at home Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in a big match against Newton-Conover, while the Bears are scheduled to face Bandys on the road the same night at 6:30 p.m.

North Iredell 2, West Iredell 0: At West Iredell, the Red Raiders won to improve to 6-3-0 in the conference.
Lake Norman visits North Iredell on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and West Iredell plays at Statesville on Thursday, also at 6;30 p.m.
North Lincoln 4, Statesville 1: At North Lincoln, the Knights won to improve to 3-5-1 in the league.
North Lincoln meets league-leading South Iredell on the road Thursday at 6;30 p.m., with Statesville playing that night, also at 6:30 p.m., at home against West Iredell.
South Iredell 3, Mooresville 2, OT: The Vikings won in overtime to stay on top of the league standings at 9-0-0, and the Blue Devils dipped to 6-3-0.
North Lincoln visits South Iredell on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and Mooresville plays at home against Alexande Central at 6:30 p.m.
Lake Norman 9, Alexander Central 2: The Wildcats rolled past the Cougars in Taylorsville.
Ali Goforth had both Alexander Central goals.
Lake Norman goes to North Iredell for a 6 p.m. match on Thursday, and Alexander Central travels to Mooresville the same night for a 6:30 p.m. start.
