LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Erin Boone of Lenoir-Rhyne University is on a watch list for National Player of the year in women’s softball.
Boone, a sophomore outfielder from Creedmore, has twice been a first-team All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) selection.
She is among 25 players on the watch list distributed by Schutt Sports for the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for NCAA Division II.
Boone leads the SAC with a .443 batting average and also tops the league in runs scored (65), hits (85) and on base percentage (.511). She has hit seven home runs and has 49 RBIs and is one of three LRU players to start every game this season.
The list will be trimmed to 10 on May 11 and then to the top three on May 17. The award winner will be revealed on May 24 before the start of the NCAA Division II national championships.
The award was created in 2015 to honor the outstanding athletic achievement among softball student-athletes throughout NCAA Division II. North Georgia’s Courtney Poole was the inaugural winner of the award.
LRU (46-11) is ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division II and shared the SAC regular season title with Carson-Newman. The Bears are ranked fifth in the region and are waiting to see if they receive a bid into the national championship tournament. Those at-large bids will come out next Monday when the tournament bracket is set.
