COLLEGE GOLF: Carson-Newman nips Coker in playoff for conference men’s title

SALISBURY – Carson-Newman won the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) men’s golf tournament on Tuesday, edging Coker on the fourth hole of a playoff at the Salisbury Country Club.

Carson-Newman and Coker tied in a rain-shortened tournament at 7-over par 431, a stroke ahead of Newberry and two strokes in front of Newberry.

The individual championship was won by Wanjoo Lee of Coker.

Because of rainy weather, the tournament played 27 holes == a round and a half – on a par 71, 6,685-yard course at the Salisbury Country Club.

Lenoir-Rhyne University shot a 43-over 467 and finished 12th in a 12-team field.

Scores for LRU golfers were: Jackson Bailey (113, tied for 32nd); Carlos Lasso (117, tied for 49th); Hunter McCombs (118, tied for 51st); Brad Robinson (119, tied for 54th) and Blake Childers (124, 60th).
