JV BASEBALL: Bunker Hill tournament begins on Thursday morning

CLAREMONT – The 2017 Bunker Hill junior varsity baseball tournament begins today with four games at Bunker Hill High.

The six-team tournament continues through Friday with admission $6 and those age six or younger getting in free.

The top two seeds are No. 1 Alexander Central and No. 2 Fred T. Foard, who will play the last two games today.

The tournament opens today at 11 a.m. with No. 5 St. Stephens facing No. 4 Newton-Conover, followed at 1:30 p.m. by No. 6 Hickory battling No. 3 Bunker Hill.

At 4 p.m., the Newton-Conover-St. Stephens winner meets Alexander Central. The nightcap, at 6:30 p.m., puts the Hickory-Bunker Hill winner against Fred T. Foard.

Games on Friday are at 12:30 p.m. for fifth place, 3 p.m. for third place and 5:30 p.m. for the title.

Game 1: No. 5 St. Stephens vs. No. 4 Newton-Conover, 11 a.m.

Game 2: No. 6 Hickory vs. No. 3 Bunker Hill, 1:30 p.m.

Game 3: Game 1 winner vs. No. 1 Alexander Central, 4 p.m.

Game 4: Game 2 winner vs. No. 2 Fred T. Foard, 6;30 p.m.

Friday

Game 5: Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser, fifth place, 12:30 p.m.

Game 6: Game 3 loser s. Game 4 loser, third place, 3 p.m.

Game 7: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner, championship, 5;30 p.m.
