Lincoln Charter’s William Crook is the individual leader after one round of the state 1A boys’ golf championship tournament on Monday, and the Eagles are second in the team standings.

Crook fired a round of 1-over par 73 to gain his lead while teammate Chase Cheatham is tied for seventh (80) heading into Tuesday’s final round at Foxfire Village.

Community School of Davidson, at 322, is two strokes ahead of Lincoln Charter.

Mustangs’ Rowe in top 10 at 2A

East Lincoln’s Lance Rowe is tied for ninth with two other golfers after Monday’s first round of the state 2A championship tournament at Whispering Pines.

Rowe finished at 8-over par 80.

Midway is the team leader at 319 with Central Academy in second (334) and Lake Norman Charter (335) in third. West Lincoln is sixth (359).

Midway’s Logan Patrick is the individual leader after a 1-under par 71 and Zach Byers of Shelby is in second at 72.

Charlotte Catholic leads 3A field

Charlotte Catholic shot 305 and has an 11-stroke lead over Clayton after one round of the state 3A championships at Longleaf in Southern Pines.

Garrett Clark of Burlington Williams is atop the leaderboard after a 1-over par 73, just ahead of Sam Davidson of Asheboro and Alex Goff of Kings Mountain by one stroke.

The top Greater Hickory area score through one round was by Hickory’s Ben Nichols, at 7-over par 79, and the Red Tornadoes’ Eli Wyatt shares 40th after a round of 81.

Kell leads 4A field by 1

Ardrey Kell shot a first-round 299 at Pinehurst No. 6 and leads the 4A tournament by four strokes over Raleigh Broughton and by five strokes over Myers Park.

Kell’s Cameron Whitney (70) is one stroke up on Spencer Oxendine of Fayetteville Britt.

No golfers from the Northwestern 3A-4A qualified for the two-day state tournament.
