WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Lenoir-Rhyne has 3 first-team all-league players

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A trio of Lenoir-Rhyne University players have been named first-team All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) in women’s soccer.

In voting by league head coaches, the Bears had seniors Abbie Brown and Claire Neibergall and junior Aqsa Mushtaq on the first team.

MUSHTAQ

Two other LRU players – junior Christina Shimshock and senior Taylor Rios – were selected for the second team.

NEIBERGALL

LRU (11-6-1) was the third seed for the conference tournament and fell in the semifinals 2-0 on Friday to Lincoln Memorial in Rock Hill, S.C.

Brown — a forward from Leeds, England — was second in the SAC this season with 16 goals, third in assist (6), second in points (38) and second in shots on goal (93).

Neibergall, from Springfield, Ill., is part of an LRU backline that has a goals-against average of 0.92, second-best in the league behind Lincoln Memorial. She also scored three goals this season.

Mushtaq, from Bradford, England, has 14 points this season with five goals and four assists.

Shimshock, from Asheville, was second-team on defense and Rios, a midfielder who played high school soccer at Fred T. Foard, made second-team on offense.
