WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: No. 18 Tampa hands Lenoir-Rhyne loss

TAMPA, Fla. – Caroline Forester’s five goals helped Tampa open a seven-goal lead on Wednesday night en route to a 12-7 women’s lacrosse victory over visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Tampa, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II overcame five goals by Bears junior Gabby Sousa to win and improve to 6-2 overall.

LRU fell to 2-5 and will play Friday at 5 p.m. against fith-ranked Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla.

Sousa had three straight goals in the second half to help LRU trim its deficit to 10-7 with just fewer than nine minutes to play but the Bears got no closer.

The Bears had a 24-21 edge in shots taken.

Junior midfielder Rachel Elmore scored twice for LRU.

In goal, Tampa’s Bridget Suttler earned a win after making 11 saves while senior Ines Flueck suffered the loss for the Bears.  Flueck made four saves.
