WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Limestone downs Lenoir-Rhyne, leaves Bears below .500

HICKORY – Eighth-ranked Limestone downed Lenoir-Rhyne University 15-6 on Saturday in women’s lacrosse, leaving the Bears under .500 at 9-10.

Visiting Limestone (18-2) got five goals from Courtney Lafler and one goal and six assists by Shannon Sisk as it won its 10th straight match.

Limestone had a 35-14 edge over the Bears in shots taken.

Cathleen Gaffney led LRU with two goals and three assists. She finished the season with a school-record 43 assists.

Limestone’s Jenna Haring earned a victory in goal by stopping six shots while senior Ines Flueck of LRU had nine saves.

Junior midfielder Rachel Elmore scored twice for the Bears, finishing the year with 52 goals, and junior attacker Gabby Sousa led LRU with 76 total points this season.

Limestone, ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II South Region rankings, is looking to secure an NCAA Division II bid when they are revealed at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
