WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Lenoir-Rhyne scores 16 goals again, improves to 3-2

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women’s lacrosse team enjoys scoring 16 goals a match because, so far this season, it has won by scoring that many goals.

The Bears (3-2) head into their next match on Friday at Young Harris (7 p.m.) owning three wins by scoring 16 goals.

The latest came Saturday in a home 16-11 victory over Virginia Wise (1-2).

LRU dominated draw controls (22-7), ground balls (20-19) and shots on goal (30-28) to move above .500.

Ten players scored for the Bears, led by Kaley Harris and Gabby Sousa with hat tricks. Rachel Elmore and Alyssa Sack added two goals each.

Elmore won eight draw controls.

Jesse French and Carolina Earnshaw led Virginia Wise with three goals each.

In goal, Cristi Rowland gain a win that featured 10 saves, a career high.

Gaffney has eight goals and 12 assists this sseason and Elmore leads the Bears with 15 goals.
