COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Bears’ Kenley, Boone given conference’s weekly awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After winning all six of their games last week and stretching a win streak to 15 games, Lenoir-Rhyne University swept the women’s weekly softball honors for the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).

Bears pitcher Emily Kenley won the league’s Pitcher of The Week award and catcher Erin Boone won Player of The Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.

LRU is 25-4 overall and 2-0 in the SAC as it heads into a conference doubleheader on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Catawba.

Kenley (13-1), a junior from Charlotte, won all three of her starting decisions last week while compiling an ERA of 0.35 with 18 strikeouts. She has won 13 straight games and has an ERA of 0.95 with four shutouts and 68 strikeouts this season.

Kenley won the top pitcher award for the second time this season.

Boone — a junior outfielder from Creedmoor — batted .588 (10-for-17) with two home runs and seven RBIs for the week. She is a two-time All-SAC first-team player and leads the Bears in batting average (.442), runs scored (27), hits (38), doubles (nine), total bases (63), slugging percentage (.733) and on-base percentage (.555).
