MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Belmont Abbey win sends Bears to 0-2 start

HICKORY – Noah Haas’ seven goals sparked visiting Belmont Abbey’s 21-15 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University’s men on Saturday in lacrosse, leaving the Bears at 0-2.

The Crusaders are off to a 3-0 start.

Junior Eric Dickinson scored four goals and had three assists for LRU with Joe Buduo adding four goals and Ryan Bell and Quinn Kuhn each scoring three.

Belmont Abbey had eight players score and outshot LRU 57-37, lead in shots on goal (38-24) and on ground balls (43-36).

The Crusaders led 11-6 at the half and the Bears score twice in the first 80 seconds of the third quarter to close within 11-8.

Belmont Abbey responded with two goals in 30 seconds and went on a 5-1 scoring spurt.

LRU went 16-for-21 on clear attempts while the Crusaders went 22-18 on faceoffs and forced 17 turnovers.

The Bears have not started a season 0-2 since opening the 2016 season with back-to-back losses.

The next match for LRU comes Saturday against the University of Tampa with a 1 p.m. start in Marietta, Ga.
