MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Bears’ Buduo scores 7 goals in win at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – A long men’s lacrosse regular-season win streak by the Lenoir-Rhyne University men in conference play was extended to 18 matches on Saturday.

The Bears edged Tusculum 14-10 on the road to improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).

Joe Buduo tied a school record for the Bears, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, by scoring seven goals.

Buduo’s big match helped LRU rally from an 8-4 deficit midway through the second period. He has a team-high 34 goals this season and 45 total points.

The Bears scored the final six goals of the match and held Tusculum scoreless in the fourth period. LRU held an advantage in shots taken (44-40) and ground balls (42-26).

Junior attacker Ryan Bell added three scores for the Bears.

For Tusculum, Andrew Kransberger scored two goals and added an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Crompton stopped nine shots and earned a win while Tusculum’s Patrick Thomas made 13 saves but suffered the loss in goal.

Buduo’s seven goals matched a March 2, 2015 match by Jay Goldsmith, who scored seven times against Florida Southern.

The Bears moved to 5-0 all-time against the Pioneers, and they are 4-0 on the road this season and are 31-4 in their last 35 matches.

LRU’s next match is Wednesday at Moretz Stadium, a 7 p.m. SAC match against Queens.
