MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Vols easily handle Bears in exhibition game at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A crowd of more than 16,000 watched Tennessee’s men easily handle visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University on Tuesday night in a college basketball exhibition.

The game, won 86-41 by Tennessee, was a match-up of the Vols’ head coach, Rick Barnes, battling his alma mater.

He is a 1977 LRU graduate who played basketball for the Bears and is beginning his 32nd season as a college head coach. His stints include one season at George Mason, six seasons at Providence, four seasons at Clemson and 17 seasons at Texas. This is his fourth season at UT and he is approaching 700 career wins (661-358).

LRU is in its third season under head coach Everick Sullivan and coming off an 11-16 record last season.

The Bears open the season on Friday at 5:30 p.m., at home, facing Young Harris. They also have a home game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Emmanual (Ga.) and battle Southern Wesleyan at LRU on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
