COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Taylor returning to Lenoir-Rhyne as defensive coordinator

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University announced this week the hiring of two defensive coaches and title changes for other coaches in its football program.

Drew Cronic, heading toward his second season as Bears head coach, announced these changes in a press release:

  • Joel Taylor is the Bears’ defensive coordinator/linebacker coach, coming in from The Citadel. He was coordinator of Citadel’s defensive passing game and coached safeties there. Taylor went to The Citadel from South Carolina State in 2014 and helped the Bulldogs win Southern Conference titles in 2015 and 2016. He previously coached linebackers at LRU (2009).
  • Delontae Amey will be a defensive assistant coach. He played defensive back at the University of West Georgia and earned a master’s degree in physical education/fitness from Georgia State in 2018.
  • Cronic made changes in titles for David Cole (associate head coach), Jimmy Long (defensive run game coordinator) and Tim Foster (passing game coordinator).
