COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Cronic gains first Lenoir-Rhyne win as Huff shines

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Former Maiden High star Xzavion Huff ran for 85 yards and two scores on Saturday night, sparking the first victory for Drew Cronic as head football coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Huff, a sophomore running back, led a 279-yard rushing attack as the visiting Bears shelled North Greenville (S.C.) 51-24 to even their record at 1-1.

A 42-yard TD run by Huff in the opening minutes of the second quarter wiped out an early 3-0 deficit. About nine minutes later, Huff scored on a 69-yard pass from quarterback Grayson Willingham and LRU led 20-3.

The Bears were up 27-3 after Huff broke a run for 38 yards and score with less than two minutes left in the first half.

Huff has 101 yards on 13 carries this season after playing in 10 games as a freshman and rushing 53 times for 227 yards and two TDs.

LRU, which scored more than 50 points for the first time since 2015, plays its first home game and first South Atlantic Conference (SAC) game of the season on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Moretz Stadium.
