WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Lenoir-Rhyne falls, won’t make conference tournament field

HICKORY – Coker had five players with eight or more kills Saturday as it handed Lenoir-Rhyne University a 3-1 loss in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s volleyball.

Taylor du Bray’s 15 kills led visiting Coker as it won 28-26, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 at Shuford Gym, leaving the Bears at 10-16 overall and 6-14 in the conference.

Coker (14-16, 7-13) qualified for the SAC tournament that begins on Tuesday, but LRU did not earn a tournament spot and closed its season.

Madison Bingle added 13 kills, Alexis Berles had 10, Annie Mansfield collected nine and Bethany Prochnow contributed eight for Coker in the win. Christen Bragg had a team-high 49 assists and Kara Overholt’s 23 digs sparked Coker.

Taylor Prall had 15 kills and Brooke Redmond had 13 to lead the Bears. Bailey Cloninger provided 23 assists and Maggie Boggard had 20 for LRU. Markland led the Bears in digs with 21 with Redmond adding 14, Boggart posting 13, Prall getting 11 and Cloninger providing 10.
