HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women’s volleyball team is under .500 as it approaches its 20th match of the season.
Visiting Carson-Newman clipped the Bears 3-2 on Friday night at Shuford Memorial Gym – 13-25, 25-22, 25-16, 14-25, 15-10 – to leave LRU at 9-10 overall and 5-8 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
Freshman Taylor Prall’s 17 kills led LRU. She added 16 digs.
The Bears also got double-doubles in the loss from Brooke Redmond, Bailey Cloninger and Jessica Funk.
Carson-Newman improved to 13-10, 8-7 behind Marnie Streeter, who had 20 kills, and Anna Patton, who had 37 assists and six kills.
LRU has lost eight of nine conference matches since a 4-0 start while Carson-Newman’s win streak is at five.
The Bears have a home conference match on Saturday at 2 p.m., facing Lincoln Memorial.
