WOMEN’S COLLEGE GOLF: Hartsell-led Bears rally to get third in league tourney

HARTSELL

ELGIN, S.C. – With a last-round surge, the Lenoir-Rhyne University women finished third on Tuesday as the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championship tournament wrapped up at The Members Club at Woodcreek.

The Bears moved from eighth place to third place, closing at 110-over par 974 on a par-72, 5,830-yard course.

Wingate won the team title at 76-over par 940.

Junior Abbey Hartsell, a former Alexander Central High star, led LRU with a 24-over par 240 to finish tied for 10th. She earned second-team all-tournament honors.

Warissa Puangchareon of Wingate won the individual title with a 16-over par 232.

LRU now waits to see if it will receive a berth into the NCAA Division II South Super Regionals on May 7-9 in Germantown, Tenn. The tournament field will be announced on April 30.
