SAC TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Both LRU teams in top 4 after first day

CHARLOTTE – Both Lenoir-Rhyne University outdoor track and field teams headed into Friday’s second day of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championships in fourth place.

In competition at Johnson C. Smith’s Irwin Belk Track, the Bears’ women had 26 ½ points and the LRU men had 20 points. The men share fourth place with Anderson, S.C.

Queens led the women’s race with 94 points and the men’s race with 85 ½ points.

The LRU women were aided by three second-place finishes: junior Savannah Drummonds in the women’s pole vault ( 11 ½ feet), junior Ronnie Cliftonin the men’s hammer throw (140-3) and senior Jacob Black in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:54).

LRU is in good position entering the final day with a two wins in the preliminaries: sophomore P.J. Lotharp in the men’s 200-meter dash (21.29), and freshman Saidah Hardwick in the women’s 400-meter dash (56.98).

Junior Paiton Fair also finished second in the preliminaries of both the women’s 400-meter dash (57.61) and 800-meter run (2:21).

The meet concludes on Friday.
