ROCK HILL, S.C. –A third-place finish by Lenoir-Rhyne University’s P.J. Lotharp in the 100-meter dash over the weekend at the 49er Classic netted him conference honors on Tuesday.
Lotharp, a sophomore from Indian Trail, was selected as the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for men.
He finished third in Charlotte with a school-record time of 10.58 seconds, a time that is currently ninth-best in NCAA Division II. That time provisionally qualifies Lotharp for the 2018 Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled May 24-26 at Johnson C. Smith.
Lotharp, an NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field All-American in the men’s 60-meter dash, also ran in the men’s 400-meter (41.80) and 1,600-meter (3:21.21) relays for the Bears. The relays finished fifth (400) and ninth (1,600).
LRU competes Thursday in the Adidas Winthrop Outdoor Classic in Rock Hill, S.C.
