MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Lenoir-Rhyne third in latest regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s men have moved up to No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Regional soccer rankings after winning four straight matches.

LRU (9-2-3, 6-2-2 South Atlantic Conference) is behind Limestone (11-2-2) and Lander, S.C. (10-2-1) in the rankings.

The Bears own wins over both Limestone and Lander and last Saturday they nipped Wingate, the defending NCAA Division II champion 1-0 on the road.

LRU is in third place in the SAC this season, led by junior forward Ignacio de Goya of Spain. He leads the Bears in goals (11) and total points (24).

The rankings are an official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process and will continue to be released each week by the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Committee up to the NCAA Championship selections.

LRU reached the season round of last year’s NCAA Division II tournament.

The Bears’ next match is Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at home. They face Newberry, S.C. (4-7-3, 3-5-1) in a conference match.
