HICKORY — The Lenoir-Rhyne University men are off to a 2-0 start after winning on Sunday night at home.

The Bears got one goal each from three players and defeated Lander (S.C.) 3-0 at the Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex.

Junior forward Ignacio de Goya, junior midfielder Florian Simon and senior forward Ismael Noumansana scored goals as LRU won its second straight match 3-0.

de Goya opened the scoring with his second goal in as many matches just 10 minutes, 12 seconds into the match after finishing off a free kick.

Simon scored off a rebounded save from Noumansana – who was credited with the assist – in the 54th minute before Noumansana, the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, rounded out the scoring at the 74:12 mark with his first goal of the season. Both de Goya and Noumansana finished with a goal and an assist.

The Bears had a 22-14 advantage in shots taken over Lander, the Peach Belt Conference champion last season and an NCAA Division II playoff team.

In goal, senior Zach King stopped six shots for his second straight shutout win while Lander’s Aleksander Holboe took the loss despite making three saves.

LRU is at home for its next match on Saturday, playing Limestone at 5 p.m.
