LENOIR-RHYNE: Bears athletes honored in baseball, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse

HICKORY – Honors continue to roll in for Lenoir-Rhyne University student-athletes.

The Bears have reported the following:

DEAN

BASEBALL

Justin Dean, a junior outfielder from Mauldin, S.C., has been selected to the All-Southeast Region second team by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).

He led the Bears this season in batting average (.398), runs scored (59), hits (74), doubles (13), triples (seven), total bases (119), slugging percentage (.640), on-base percentage (.498) and stolen bases (14).

Dean was first-team All-SAC after starting all 49 games for LRU (27-22, 13-14).  A three-year starter, he tied for the league lead in triples (seven).

The Peach Belt Conference had 16 honorees on the two teams while the South Atlantic Conference had 11 and the Conference Carolinas totaled six. The first-team selections will move on to the All-America ballot.

WOMEN’S GOLF

O’CONNOR

Ainee O’Connor, a sophomore from Kent, United Kingdom with a 4.0 grade point average, has been selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® III Women’s At-Large Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

She is majoring in economics, German and French.

The at-large team is for student-athletes in these conferences: Carolinas, Peach Belt, South Atlantic.

O’Connor was second-team All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) last season, leading the Bears to a postseason NCAA Division II bid for the first time in 15 years.

The All-America program recognizes top student-athletes in all three levels of NCAA competition and also includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

FLUECK

Ines Flueck, a senior goalkeeper from Coppell, Tex., and the SAC Player of the Year, has been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associaiton (IWLCA) NCAA Division II All-South Region second team.

She led the Bears (9-10, 8-0) to their first SAC regular-season title.

Flueck was 9-8 with a 11.20 goal-against average and 148 saves, and she is the Bears’ all-time leader in stops with 606.

The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division II with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2018. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team.
