COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Mars Hill extends Lenoir-Rhyne’s losing streak to 3

HICKORY – Mars Hill tripped Lenoir-Rhyne 3-1 in women’s volleyball on Tuesday night, extending the Bears’ losing streak to three matches.

The Lions won 26-24, 21-25, 25-17, 25-11 at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium to improve to 4-8 overall and 3-6 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). The Bears are 7-5, 4-3.

Lauren Hochstetler led Mars Hill with a match-high 16 kills and 15 digs and Maddie Spurgeon added 11 kills. Sara Pasour contributed 27 assists, nine digs and seven aces for the Lions.

Freshmen led the Bears with outside hitter Taylor Prall posting 11 kills and setter Maggie Bogart getting 20 digs. Junior defensive specialist Bailey Cloninger added 15 digs for the Bears, who had 11 blocks but also made nine service errors.

LRU next plays on Friday, facing Newberry, S.C., on the road at 7 p.m. in an SAC match.
