HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University won its third straight women’s volleyball match on Friday night, opening league play with a 3-0 home win over Tusculum.
The Bears (4-2, 1-0 South Atlantic Conference) won 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 behind Brooke Redmond and Maggie Bogart.
Redmond, a senior outside hitter from Statesville, finished with 11 kills and Bogart, a freshman setter from Shawnee, Kan., added eight kills and 17 assists.
LRU had six service aces and got 20 assists from Anna Smith of Statesville.
For Tusculum (3-4, 1-2), Cassie Brown provided a match-high 12 kills and Shannon Murphy had 30 assists.
The Bears’ next match is at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Catawba.
