COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Ex-Bunker Hill star leads Bears past Mars Hill

MARS HILL – A career night by junior Hannah Houston sparked Lenoir-Rhyne University’s 3-2 women’s volleyball road victory on Tuesday night over Mars Hill.

HOUSTON

Houston, a junior who played high school volleyball at Bunker Hill, had 17 kills as LRU won a South Atlantic Conference match, improving to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Senior Jessica Funk led the Bears with a match-high 48 assists as they posted a season-high 97 digs, led by a career-high 27 by freshman Ashley Hawkins.

Houston had 11 digs to go with her kills while Angleica Arroyo had 13 kills, Taylor Prall added 10 and Funk had 18.

Mars Hill dropped to 7-4, 1-2, falling 15-9 in the last set after winning the second and fourth set.

LRU snapped a three-match losing streak and stopped the Lions’ win streak at four.

The Bears’ next match is Friday at 7 p.m. at home against conference foe Catawba.
