JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Senior Haylea Salamon won the discus on Saturday for Lenoir-Rhyne University at East Tennessee State’s Tri-Star Classic.
Salamon’s discus throw was 148 feet, 9 inches and was one of several NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying events for the Bears. She advanced to the NCAA Division II championships in 2015.
LRU next competes at the University of Mount Olive’s Last Chance Outdoor Meet on May 13.
Women
Junior Paiton Fair finished second for the Bears in the 800-meter dash in a school-record and provisional-qualifying time of 2:12.34.
Sophomore Autumn Drayton was third in the discus (145-9).
The Bears’ 400-meter relay team – sophomore Kayonna Lewis, freshmen Saidah Hardwick and Mya Jones and junior Dakota Alston – set a new school-record with a time of 47.70 seconds.
Men
LRU won the 400-meter relay race with a 41.80. The quartet included senior T.J. Smith, sophomores P.J. Lotharp and Kaynmon Maddox and junior C.J. Williams.
