AUSTIN, Tex. – Noah McRae, a Hickory senior who swims for Lenoir-Rhyne University, has earned an academic award in NCAA Division II.
McRae, who graduated in the spring with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a grade point average of 3.98, has been named to an at-large team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The at-large teams are the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II men’s and women’s selections, a press release from LRU said
McRae is one of the best swimmers in school history. He holds holds program marks in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.92), 50-yard backstroke (24.83), 100-yard backstroke (52.25) and 400-yard individual medley (3.57.43).
He earned 2018 All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference honors in the 500-yard freestyle and his time in the 400-yard IM was good enough to earn NCAA Division II “B” cut qualifying. In addition, McRea earned league men’s swimmer-of-the-week accolades twice this season.
He was also part of four school-record relay teams: 200-yard freestyle (1:26.11), 200-yard medley relay (1:36.06), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:09.77) and 800-yard freestyle relay (6:49.14).
In the classroom, McRea was the 2016-17 Dr. Rufus L. Moretz Bears Club Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year which is given annually to the Lenoir-Rhyne student-athletes with the highest grade point averages.
