COLLEGE SWIMMING: Both Lenoir-Rhyne teams in 7th place at conference tournament

CHARLOTTE – Both Lenoir-Rhyne University swim teams are in seventh place after the opening day of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

The Bears broke several school records on Thursday, as the men scored 210 points to place seventh and the women had 87 points to sit seventh.

Queens’ swim teams are leading the standings.

LRU women

The Bears’ 800-yard freestyle relay team – freshmen Lauren Rutherford, Kelsey Krumanocker, sophomore Jessica Myers and junior Alyx Koert – finished in a school-record time of seven minutes, 51.82.

LRU’s 400-yard medley relay established a school record in 4:02.09. Rutherford, Koert and sophomores Addison Herndon and Jessica Myers make up that team.

Rutherford (24.50) set a new school mark in the 50-yard freestyle.

LRU men

LRU’s 800-yard freestyle relay – sophomore Jacob Queen, senior Noah McRea, and freshmen Spencer Ashby and Samuel Murphy – finished fifth in a school-record time of 6:49.14.

Queen broke the 200-yard freestyle school mark after leading off with a 1:41.10.

The Bears’ 400-yard set a school record ins 3:25.92 with McRea, Queen, Ashby and junior Jacob Sink in the lineup.

Ashby (21.30) set a new school mark in the 50-yard freestyle.
