GREENSBORO – Three Lenoir-Rhyne University women’s softball players are first-team all-state, and the Bears had two players named second-team.

On Friday, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) released its all-state college teams (NCAA Division II, Division II and NAIA), and LRU’s five picks were the most in the state.

LRU’s first-team picks are senior catcher Sarah Kenley of Charlotte, sophomore outfielder Erin Boone of Creedmor and senior first baseman Sydney Landreth of Disputanta, Va.

The Bears also had freshman pitcher Sydney Miller of East Bend and junior third baseman Mackenzie Cates of Efland as second-team selections.

Also making the second-team was former South Caldwell High star Makayla Carver, a sophomore playing for Guilford, as a utility player.

Kenley was second in batting average (.429) in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) last season and she was the conference and Southeast Region Player of the Year.

Boone led the SAC in hitting (.440) runs scored (66), hits (88) and on-base percentage (.507). She hit seven home runs and drove in 49 runs.

Landreth, a three-time all-conference pick, batted .386 with four home runs, a league-high 23 doubles and 54 RBIs.

Miller went 14-9 last season with an ERA of 2.42 with four shutouts, two saves and 36 strikeouts.

Cates batted .302 with eight home runs and 49 RBIs.

The Bears went 46-13, including 16-4 in the SAC to share a league regular-season title with Carson-Newman, and they advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
