MOUNT OLIVE – Eight Lenoir-Rhyne University soccer players have been named all-state by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA), five of them earning first-team recognition.
In the men’s selections, LRU’s first-teamers are Victor Cascon, Marcos Enriquez and Ignacio de Goya and Florian Simon earned second-team honors.
Claire Neibergall and Abbie Brown were the Bears’ first-teamers on the women’s team and Christina Shimsock and Aqsa Mushtaq made second-team.
Cascon, a sophomore from Salamnca, Spain, led the Bears in goals this season with 10.
De Goya, a senior from Madrid, Spain, had seven goals this season for LRU.
Enriquez, a senior from Pamplona, Spain was the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year this season.
LRU went 11-6 this season and won the SAC championship for the first time.
Neibergall is a senior from Springfield, Ill., who started all 18 matches for LRU this season and scored three goals.
Brown, a senior from Leeds, England, led LRU in scoring with 16 goals, which ranked third in the SAC.
Nominations for all-state were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, the NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions in North Carolina.
