COLLEGE SOCCER: Bears’ Cascon, Enriquez on All-Southeast Region first-team

GAFFNEY, S.C. – A trio of men’s soccer stars at Lenoir-Rhyne University have been named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Southeast All-Region team.

Sophomore Victor Cascon and senior Marcos Enriquez are first-team selections, and senior forward Ignacio de Goya was a second-team pick.

Cascon, the Bears’ leading scorer this season, had 10 goals to go with three assists and totaled 23 points. His 10 goals ranked second in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).

ENRIQUEZ

Enriquez, the SAC Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-SAC selection, started all 17 matches games for the Bears while adding one goal and one assist for three points.

De Goya was second in scoring this season for LRU with seven goals and added one assist.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the two D2CCA All-Southeast Region teams.

The process concludes with All-America selections announced later in the month.

Pair of LRU women’s players selected

Abbie Brown and Aqsa Mushtaq of LRU were second-team selections for the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Southeast All-Region team.

Brown, a forward from Leeds, England, was dynamic on the attack for the Bears. She led LRU with 16 goals, third-best in the SAC, and added six assists and 38 points and scored a game-winning goal six times.

Mushtaq, a junior midfielder from Bradford, England started in 17 of the 18 matches she played in and was LRU’s third-leading scorer with five goals. She added four assists and finished with 14 points.
