MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Harvey fans only batter he faces in loss at Pittsburgh

Hunter Harvey faced one batter on Saturday night and struck him out in the Washington Nationals’ 6-4 loss at Pittsburgh.

It was the second straight outing for Harvey, a former Bandys High star, in which he went only one-third of an inning and got a strikeout.

He has now pitched in three games for the Nats with an 0-0 record and ERA of 0.00, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out three. Saturday’s apperance before a crowd of 8,676 was Harvey’s 29th in the major leagues.

He has 26 strikeouts in 25 1/3 big league innings.

Harvey threw strikes on three of his five pitches Saturday.

Washington (4-6) closes its series with the Pirates (4-4) on Sunday (1:35 p.m.) then heads home for a long home stand that begins Monday night against Arizona.

The San Francisco Giants, who took Harvey on waivers after he was placed on them by the Baltimore Orioles, are in Washington for three games starting Friday.

After an off day next Monday, the Nats play a three-game series at home against Florida.

Harvey ended up with Washington via waivers, claimed by the Nats after the Giants took him off their 40-man roster and designated him for assignment.
